Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog! In my recent post, Welcome to Writings by JM!, I welcomed you all to the new site I have and I am so grateful to everyone who expressed their lovely comments about thew new site layout. I really am so happy that most of you get to like it because it’s a result of three-days editing, and I’m just so tired, but seeing your comments makes me so happy.
For today, I would share with you all the troubles that I currently have in my new site. I’ve been contacting a lot of support teams regarding this and I hope, in high hopes, I get the result I’m looking for. Anyway, I’m also posting this NOT in any way to discourage you if ever you go self-hosted but to also let you know because you might notice some weird things going on with my blog.
Regarding WordPress Reader
Here’s the thing: I have successfully installed Jetpack plugin in WordPress.org, so migrating all the posts and transferring all the subscribers from my old site to this new one has been successful- and I am truly so glad that it did. However, I currently have 2 problems regarding WordPress Reader.
First one, not ALL of my existing WordPress subscribers can see the post I publish on Reader.
I have actually messaged some of you to check if my posts are appearing in Reader and I would like to give a HUGE THANKS TO EVERYONE who has helped. So this is my conclusion: Some of you see it, and some don’t. I’ve contacted the WordPress Support Team about this and they are very nice to help me. They assured me that everything’s working perfectly fine. I hope that in the next posts, like this one, you get to see it on the Reader.
Second issue I’m facing with is the likes and statistics for my old WordPress blog has not transferred to this new blog. This is a concern with Jetpack plugin. They actually do transfer likes and statistics if I contact them privately, but… (the photos below would explain it)
And when I click the contact us link, here’s what they tell me:
Since I didn’t pay for Jetpack, then I guess I’m gonna go have to wait until they finally open their support again.
This does not trouble me so much as I don’t have many posts with gallery images and I can edit those posts when I finally have the motivation to do it but I thought I’d also share with you.
Here’s an example:
As I have said, I don’t really have a lot of posts that has a gallery on it so I’m gonna work on these posts soon.
And I think that’s all! It’s a good thing that I don’t have to deal with a lot of issues as the issues stated above can still be resolved. Regarding my posts not appearing in your Reader, I really hope it would be fixed immediately.
I still think that even though I’m currently facing those issues right now, having my blog get self-hosted is definitely one of my achievements in life. In a lot of years, I’ve spent on thinking and deciding whether or not to go self-hosted and I’m finally here. It’s definitely a new journey with a lot of new opportunities and I’m just so grateful that I finally stepped out of the box. This blog has always been my comfort zone, a part of my life since 2015 and I’m definitely taking care of it now. 🙂
Thank you all so much for reading! I hope that this post didn’t discourage you to go self-hosted in any way… because it’s really so fun to have a lot more freedom in customizing your blog layout and content.
Now, I need a little bit of your help and if you have time, please answer it on the comments below!
Did this post appear on your Reader? Or did you have to go to my site to view this post?
I would very much appreciate it if you answer! Again, thank you so much for reading!
And oh… what do you think about having a blog party? 😉
