My Academic Track Subjects: A Collab

Hello everyone and hey hey heeey, another collab?! I’ve just had a collab yesterday with my friend, Elline and guess who I’ll be collaborating with right now?

It’s no other than.. Maggie from Dreaming of Guatemala! I’m pretty sure you already know her because if you don’t, you’re totally missing out!

Okay, so for my post, I’ll be sharing my academic track subjects and Maggie will share her senior year school subjects. This is pretty exciting so…

First things first, I choose the track, academic. And under this track, there are three strands (atleast for our school):

First one is STEM which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Obviously, this strand is for the aspiring engineers, doctors, mathematician and such.

Second strand is ABM which stands for Accountancy and Business Management. This strand is for the aspiring businessmen and women, accountants and such.

Third strand is the HUMSS strand. This is my chosen strand and HUMSS stands for Humanities and Social Sciences. This is for the aspiring philosophers, policemen, lawyers and everything related to social work. Alongside HUMSS is another strand, GAS which stands for General Academic Strand. The strand is for the undecided.

As HUMSS being my chosen strand, here are the subjects that I take up:

1. Earth and Life Science

Earth and Life Science is a core subject. When we say core, all other strands must have it, too. However, STEM students take Earth Science, not including life.

2. Religious Education

This is also a core subject since we’re in a Catholic school.

3. Oral Communication in Context

Another core subject and swear this is one of the subjects that I find it really hard to answer during tests. I can understand the lessons but there are just so many terms and there are so many people that we need to take note of. I’m not the only one who finds OCC hard, tho. Haha. Any grade 11 students here who feel me?

4. Komunikasyon at Pananaliksik sa Pangwika at Kulturang Pilipino

Another core subject and in this, we study the history and culture of our own language.

5. 21st Century Literature from the Philippines and the World

Also a core subject and this is our English literature.

6. General Mathematics

Another core subject and everyone is crying because of the freakin domain and range. I hope I’ll pass this subject. *cries* I’m so bad at Math sigh.

7. Physical Education

When I was in junior high, it was always MAPEH. Music, Arts, PE and Health. But now, it’s only PE. We only meet once a week with our PE teacher and GAH I DON’T WANT TO REMEMBER HOW I FAILED IN THE PE QUARTERLY TEST. I swear everyone was shookt when we were answering our PE test. Ahhhh.

8. Empowerment Technologies

I don’t actually remember if this is a core subject or a contextualized subject. However, this is our ICT subject.

9. Introduction To World Religions and Belief Systems

This is one of my favourite subjects ever!! It’s mixture of religion, theology and philosophy. I understand things because of this subject and there was one time in class that almost all of our heads exploded because we need to prove God without our faith. I don’t remember how it really went but in the end, we proved that God exists even without our faith. This is a specialized subject for HUMSS and I just LOVE this subject.

10. Foreign Language β€” Italian

You guys know that I’m taking up Italian. I’ve said it in my previous posts before. Sometimes I’m so hyped to learn Italian and sometimes my head literally aches because of the topic. I hated studying preposizione (preposition). Ahhh I was just picking letters at the test! Anyone here willing to explain the Italian prepositions for me? Hahaha kidding.

And that’s probably it. I hope you liked this post and if you’re an upcoming senior high school, these are some of the subjects you might take!

And now that we’re finished.. why don’t head on to Maggie‘s blog and read her posts? I’m definitely sure you’ll love it!

Who here are Math wizards? I salute you guys! And who here are incoming senior high in the Philippines? This post might come in handy for you!

Blossom Themes

  1. Great post, Jirah! HUMSS sounds like a class I would enjoy taking πŸ˜€ as does the world religion one!! Learning Italian would be so fun one day, and I know what you mean about going back and forth between enjoying it and despising it, lol!!! The hardest thing for me with learning another language was Spanish verb conjugation 😱 thankfully it slowly gets better with practice!

    1. Thanks, Maggie! Ahhh the world religion is SO cool!!! Haha. I’d love to master Spanish some day too! 😊❀

      1. You’re welcome!! I’m sure it is 😍 that would be cool!

  2. How fun! I love seeing what other countries are learning. I’m graduated from college already, but I loved anything to do with reading and writing! xx.

    1. I also love to see what curriculums do other countries have. 😁 And I’m definitely sure you’d fit in the HUMSS strand as well! I think when we reach the 12th grade, we’ll have a Creative Writing subject already. πŸ˜ŠπŸ’“

  3. Great read Jirah! Thanks for sharing. Maggie’s post was also great. Have a great day!

    1. Thank you so much, Cherylene! It’s been so long. I definitely need to catch up with your blog!!

      1. I’m not worried πŸ™‚ I know you’ll get to my blog when you get time. Take care of yourself.

  4. This is a great post! These all sounds like interesting classes. I think my favorite (other than math because #accountingmajorprobs) would be world religion! How fun!

    1. Thank you so much, KC! And yes our world religion subject is really fun! 😊❀ Thanks for visiting my blog and dropping by. Have a blessed day!! ❀

  5. I was horrible at math, and then one day it just clicked, and it all made sense. One of my best subjects after that :):) Sounds like you are learning lots and lots, whether you like the subject or not, you seem to be positive about them, and that will help you a lot in the long run.

    1. I hope that happens to me too! I’m just so bad at it. Haha. Thank you so much. I really try to be positive even though there are so much negativity around! πŸ™‚

  6. […] My Academic Track Subjects: A… onΒ Jirah Merizz […]

  7. I feel like I’d do the HUMMS strand too! Especially, since I’m a teacher haha. It’s interesting that your subjects connect to strands. For us, we had a whole list of subjects and had to pick six, they could be pretty random πŸ™‚ I loved this collab with Maggie!

    1. Yeees. Teacher is also under the HUMSS strand! 😁 I wish we get to choose our subjects too, but I think that’s only for college students here in PH. 😊 Thank you so much, Angela!! πŸ’—

  8. Proving God without faith…wow! This was definitely interesting to read and see everything you have. I can see why you get stressed. Take care!!! πŸ™‚

    1. That’s probably one of the best topics I’ve ever experienced in class! Thank you so much, T.R! πŸ’“

  9. Introduction To World Religions and Belief Systems sounds like an absolutely fascinating subject; I really wish that I’d studied history. Your subjects sound so interesting and mind-expanding x

    1. It really is!! Definitely one of my favourite subjects ever. 😁 I think that’s the goal of the HUMSS strand. Haha. And history would be so cool! I’ve experienced a little bit when I was in the 9th grade.

  10. I would have loved to have an ABM strand at my school! There were little business classes available at my high school and I took as many as I could. HUMSS sounds awesome as well!

  11. Great idea for a collab! And very informative too. πŸ™‚

    1. Yay!! Thank you so much! πŸ’—
