I don’t really know how to start this post, but…
Hello everyone! Oh gosh, I missed writing here! It’s been so long since I last opened my WordPress site and I have missed a lot. Like totally, a lot! I was reading a lot of your posts and I really missed the old times– like being in my room, brainstorming and thinking of new ideas to write in a blog post and of course, reading and interacting with you all! (It’s not that long, but it SEEMS SOOOOO LONG already!)
SO WHAT HAPPENED TO ME?
Haha that’s such a funny headline but if you’re curious, just keep on reading! I have one answer to that, though and I’ll just elaborate later. But my college life happened. Here is my last post about my college experience and I haven’t really posted another one about it anymore. And gah, I have so much to tell you! But to make it more clear and organized, I will list the things that I had to go through and experience in JUST A YEAR!
- Adjustment Period (June-July 2019)
This is probably one of the hardest phase I had to go through last 2019. As most of you know, I got accepted in a university that is really far from my home town. [The driving distance is approximately 69km. Please read my college enrollment story to know more!] Since it’s really far, I had to move in a condominium unit and it’s a good thing that my condo is only a walking distance from my uni. Moving in and adjusting in my condo, oh god it was really hassle and took a lot of time. But the harder part was meeting new people and adjusting to a very new and unfamiliar environment.
I’m a province girl and it’s like in just a snap, I’m in the city. I’m studying in the city. It was really new and I have to admit that it’s really cool as well. The whole adjustment period was hard– but it’s a fact that I enjoyed it so much. I enjoyed trying new things like socializing to new people, trying new kinds of food and having a new kind of routine. And also, I don’t know how to cook my own food and it was a real hassle!! Good thing I learned at around October but ’til then, I had to order prepared meals which is seriously not fit for my weekly allowance.
- College Exams
I’m a philosophy major and most of my exams are in essays! Good thing I was trained to write a lot of essays in my senior high school but girl, my college exams are no joke! I totally feel all the nervousness I have in my body and the pressure… I had to cope with it, too!
- Baby Thesis 🙁
We deal with bunch of papers and readings everyday… but so far the most challenging one for me was the baby thesis we (because we’re in a group) had to comply in one subject. It was given to us the first semester and since it’s an adjustment period for all of us, we were ALL unsure of what to do. Good thing though, we managed to finish it and move on to the next semester! <3
- Making Friends
I was expecting myself not to be friendly because it’s a new environment and I am quite of shy, but I was the complete opposite! During the first day of school, I was already making friends and talking with my classmates because during that time, I was so unsure to continue the program that I chose and it turns out, I’m not the only one! Haha. But hey, here we are.
- Became President’s Lister in the First Sem!
Aaaa this is definitely one of the most surreal achievements I’ve had this college. I became president’s lister with a GPA of 1.39 (Our highest is 1.00) and aaaack my parents were so proud.
- Made my first flight booking!!!
I FELT SO RESPONSIBLE THIS TIME! My two older brothers went to Macau and I was the one who booked their flight and their hotel. I WAS SO ANXIOUS BOOKING HOTELS but good thing though, we managed to get through it.
- My grandmother died.
Last January, my grandmother died. It was another heart breaking moment for me and for my family.
- My two brothers went abroad to work.
I still remember our situation at the airport. It was definitely one of the sad moments and at the same time, I’m really proud of my brothers because they’re going to work abroad. I’ve lived with them my entire life and I was really anxious at first because we’re gonna separate… but it’s all for our own good.
- Class Suspensions: Taal Volcano Eruption + Enhanced Community Quarantine
These were one of the worsts, like ever. I experienced my classes being suspended because of a typhoon, power interruption, prof meetings and etc. But one of the worst suspension I ever had was when a volcano here in the Philippines, Taal Volcano, erupted. My home town is SO near to the volcano and it is included in the 14-km radius. Oh god, I was so worried for my family. I was safe in Manila but my family were in danger– I just couldn’t stop thinking and praying for them. I was in Manila for a week and when I went home, my home town was just so grey and dull due to the ash fall. It was a natural disaster, indeed! My family was safe. Me and my classmates decided to do a donation drive to the families affected.
And now, I think as we all are, are under quarantine due to the Novel Coronavirus-19. We are on an enhanced community quarantine which means we literally cannot go outside our house. Only my dad goes outside when we need groceries and it’s acceptable because we have a quarantine pass for only one person.
Wherever you are in the world, please be safe and wash your hands. As of now, no one is infected in my home town but we can never be so sure. It is important to be vigilant in times like this. Please please please wash your hands and if you’re going out to work, please be safe. What is the situation in your country right now?
There you go. I hope I enlightened you with the reasons why I couldn’t blog last year. Believe me, I was trying to. I tried a lot of times but it just never happened. But here it is now, yay!
Many more blog posts are coming soon. What would you like to see?
